"to help dogs and cats that are abused, abandoned, seriously ill, handicapped, pregnant and nursing moms, and nursing babies that need to be bottle fed."
Animal Lifeline of Iowa (ALI) reports that it is a special needs, no-kill animal shelter operating in Des Moines, Iowa. The organization rescues and rehabilitates animals that run a high risk of euthanasia in a traditional shelter setting. Animal care includes food and shelter, vaccinations, microchipping, spay and neuter, veterinary care, and any necessary medications and surgeries. Once healthy, all animals are available for adoption. ALI also works with local youth groups, community groups, and at-risk youth by providing volunteer opportunities and educating individuals on responsible pet ownership and caring for a companion animal. In 2020, the organization states that it adopted out 122 dogs and cats, performed 62 spay and neuters, and completed eight orthopedic surgeries. In addition, the organization reports that it opened its pet food pantry, in partnership with other local non-profits, to assist community members.
