The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) works with families, victims, private industry, law enforcement, and the public to assist with preventing child abductions, recovering missing children, and providing services to deter and combat child sexual exploitation. The organization is a secondary distributor of AMBER Alerts and provides peer support through its Team HOPE program to families experiencing a missing or exploited child case. NCMEC provides onsite assistance to critical missing child cases through its Team Adam program. The organization receives reports of missing and sexually exploited children through its 24-hour, toll-free hotline (1-800-843-5678) and through the CyberTipline (https://report.cybertip.org/), the national mechanism for the public and electronic service providers to report apparent child sexual exploitation. The organization also provides prevention education and online child safety materials for teachers and parents to use with children ages 5-17. NCMEC's KidSmartz child safety program also educates families about preventing abduction and empowers kids in grades K-5 to practice safer behaviors.
