ALS Association Golden West Chapter (ALS Golden West) reports that it supports individuals living with ALS and their families in 31 counties throughout California and the state of Hawaii free of charge. The organization's Excellence in ALS Care Initiative aims to help individuals with ALS by addressing the medical, social, emotional, and financial challenges of living with ALS by providing care that emphasizes coordination among care managers, social workers, and health care providers in clinical, community, and home-based settings. Program components include professional care management, support groups, equipment loans, educational and community outreach events, advocacy efforts, and support for ALS research. ALS Golden West also offers telehealth options for all of its programs. In 2019, the organization reports that it served nearly 1,800 families and distributed 10 research grants.
