Virginia Sheriffs' Institute meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
The Virginia Sheriffs' Institute (VSI) sponsors educational programs and offers scholarship and certification programs. VSI programs include a spring and fall educational conference, an executive management training program for sheriffs and deputies, the Virginia Coalition for the Prevention of Elder Abuse conference, a newly elected sheriffs? school, the Network for Victims and Witnesses of Crime Conference, Concerns of Police Survivors conference, lawful employment training for sheriffs, Virginia State Police Association Emergency Relief Fund, and the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund to honor Virginia officers killed in the line of duty. The organization provides scholarships to people throughout Virginia who major in criminal justice at a Virginia college or university and provides an immediate $5,000 in-the-line-of-duty death benefit to families of any sheriff or deputy killed in the line of duty. VSI also provides a certification program for sheriffs and deputies in partnership with the L. Douglas Wilder School of Public Affairs at the Virginia Commonwealth University. VSI also serves as a consultant to assist with positive public relations for sheriff's offices statewide.
