USA Cares reports that it works to improve the quality of life for veterans and their families and reduce potential factors that may contribute to veteran suicide. The Military Assistance Response program helps post-9/11 veterans and service members find stability through financial assistance grants to pay essential bills including rent, mortgage, utilities, automobile, telephone, and food. The financial assistance serves to prevent evictions, foreclosures, automobile repossessions, and utility disconnections. The Career Transition Assistance program provides individuals with tools to prepare them for the hiring process and refers candidates to organizations with open positions of employment specific to their skillsets. This program also helps transitioning service members pay essential bills while they train for a new job or while they wait for their first paycheck. In 2020, USA Cares states that it assisted 608 veterans and military families through the provision of 242 mortgage payments, 216 utility payments, 198 automobile payments, and 103 phone payments.
